My Best Volleyball Shoes

Asics Volleyball Shoes Are The Best Shoes

My best volleyball shoes. My teammate  and I had a discussion

about how we felt about them.

I told her that for me the lighter the volleyball shoe is, the

better.

I don’t know if this is a reflection of the time when I had to wear

corrective leg braces, or because of years of dance practice or if it’s

just because of my love for going bare-footed when I was a teen.

I really can’t pinpoint a specific reason.

All I know is that I always thought that my best volleyball shoes

were the lighter kind of shoes that are made with the mesh, you know

that net like material, on the top part of the shoe which allows my feet

to breathe.

As a professional  volleyball player, for some reason during my

spike approach, I always had the need to feel my toes move inside my

shoe, when I planted my feet just before lifting myself off the ground.

When I have to do any running to chase a ball on or off the volleyball

court I don’t want to feel like my shoes are slowing me down.

In fact, I don’t really want to feel my volleyball shoes on my feet,

period.

This particular “problem” may come from playing beach volleyball

where I’m so used to feeling the sand between my toes. I've

always needed to feel what the muscles in my toes and feet are doing.

Major control issues, right?

Although I have enjoyed wearing Mizuno volleyball shoes

throughout my career, my best volleyball shoes are the running style

type shoe because in addition to the elements I mentioned above, I

feel like the volleyball shoe modeled after a running shoe gives me

some lift underneath my arch and the bottom of my heel when I

jump.

With that said, I don't usually want so much leather on my shoes. I

don't want to feel like I'm wearing two bowling balls on my feet.

I've always leaned toward Asics volleyball shoes as my first choice.

Come to think of it, I remember I did have a pair of New Balance

volleyball shoes which I completely wore out but through years of

professional volleyball games, leagues and tournaments, I've always

had at least a couple of pair of Asics volleyball shoes in my

luggage, in my closet or on my feet.

My teammate on the other hand liked a lot more leather on her

volleyball shoe.

Since her body was moving around on the volleyball court, she

didn't want her feet to move around inside her shoes.

She felt that a heavier shoe would give her more stability especially in

defense when she needed to stay in a low position on the court and

then lunge for a ball.

She wanted less movement inside her shoe.

Different strokes for different folks. Feel free to share the elements of

your best volleyball shoes.
