Junior Volleyball Tournaments

The month of April is spring time and marks the beginning of the season

for April volleyball tournaments held outside.

April is the month for qualifying girls junior volleyball tournaments.

If you are a new volleyball parent looking for more information about

how these qualifiers work check the usavolleyball.org site to read the

Girls Qualifier Manual and the Rules Interpretation & Clarification.

No Dinx/Far Western National Qualifiers

The Far Westerns span a full week of competition for girls club and open

volleyball teams around the country.

The first weekend of this tournament April 20-22 is dedicated to a

division for the 12s, 13s, 14s and 15s.

The second weekend April 26 - 28 is dedicated to club and open

divisions for 15s, 16s, 17s and 18s.

With 80 volleyball courts held at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center

and Reno Events Center, parents should know that

over 70 college volleyball coaches from Division I and II (according to

University Athlete) attended this event.

Most of these coaches came from colleges in the states of Alaska,

California, Colorado, Hawaii, Georgia, Idaho, Nevada, Nebraska, with

quite a few from Texas, Oregon, Utah and Washington.

Big South Qualifier, Atlanta, GA

Big South Qualifier is a three-day tournament held at the very

beginning of April in Atlanta, Georgia at the Georgia World Congress


With more than 800 participating teams, the Big South hosts visiting

teams from American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands

that also compete during the weekend.

Many NAIA, Division I and II college volleyball coaches attend the Big

South qualifier particularly from the states of Florida, Georgia, Kentucky,

Louisiana, Maryland, Missisissppi, North Carolina, New York, Ohio,

Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia just to name a

Tournament Magic hosts an innovative Virtual Volleyball Showcase

where each volleyball court is videotaped and within a week the video is

uploaded to a web sire where volleyball players can get a url that they

can use to send to college coaches for volleyball recruiting purposes.

The idea is that players now have a way to showcase their talent

without college volleyball coaches being actually present at the Big

South Tournament.

The Lone Star Classic

Dallas, Texas is the site of one of the largest April volleyball

tournaments, the is actually the largest junior volleyball qualifier in the

nation with more than 1200 teams participating .

Held inside the Dallas Convention Center, the annual Lone Star Classic

begins the first part of competition dedicated to several divisions for

13s, 14s and 15s on April 15 - 17.

A boys volleyball tournament is included along with the

start of competition for the 11s, 12s, 16s, 17s and 18s.

Parents will be interested in knowing about the first college volleyball

showcase scheduled each since the 2011 edition.

The showcase is a college tournament within the junior club tournament

which features Division I and II teams in a one-day volleyball

tournament which can be viewed by any of the 14,000 junior club teams

and guests of the Lone Star Classic.

The Lone Star Classic offers a  Kid Zone where younger siblings of the

participating club volleyball players have a place to play in their own

recreational area.

The NorthEast qualifier is one of the popular April volleyball tournaments

which opens play with competition for the club division of 12s, and 13s,

open division for 16s, and open and club divisions for 17s and 18s.

Its the 14s and 15s and 16s takes place at the Baltimore Convention


One of the more popular April volleyball tournaments for college

volleyball coaches from Division I, II, III and NAIA to attend, they come

from all over the US particularly from Connecticut, Florida, Maine,

Maryland, North Carolina, alot from New York and Pennsylvania and


Show Me Qualifier, Kansas City MO

The first weekend of this qualifier is  when play begins

for 12s club division, and open and club divisions for the 16s, 17s and


On the first three days the 13s club and 14s and 15s club and open

divisions get started with their competition.

The Show Me Qualifier tournament takes place in the Kansas City

Convention Center on Easter weekend making it one of the busiest April

volleyball tournaments in Maryland.

So for those volleyball players and families interested in attending

church services, a list of neighboring churches of various denominations

is available on the Show Me qualifier web site.

The first part of the Mizuno Northern Lights tournament annually held

in Minneapolis, Minnesota on April 8 -10 is dedicated to the club and

open divisions for 14s and 15s.

The second part begins on April 15 - 17 and opens play for club divisions

for 12s and 13s and open and club divisions for 16s, 17s and 18s.

One of the April volleyball tournaments that over 150 Division I and II

college volleyball coaches have registered to attend with quite a few

Junior Volleyball Tournaments in February

Annual Las Vegas Classic

Traditionally, this is one of the first junior girls volleyball tournaments of

the year, hosted by the South California Volleyball Association (SCVA)

which celebrated its 25th year of existence in 2011.

It's Vegas baby.

As one of the oldest February volleyball tournaments for girls club

volleyball the Las Vegas Classic attracts one of the largest number of

college and university coaches from all over the country for volleyball

recruiting purposes.

Capitol Hill Volleyball Classic - Washington DC

The Walter E. Washington Convention Center is the site of the

President's Day Capitol Hill Volleyball Classic in Washington DC which

hosts 5500 girls volleyball players from over 600 volleyball teams that

come from around the country.

Presented by the Metro American Volleyball Club and the Greater

Washington Sports Alliance, clearly this is the largest President's Day

volleyball tournament held in the country with seven age divisions that

range from 11-unders teams to 18-unders teams.

The third day of the tournament is dedicated to Dig Pink Day where all

the participating teams wear pink uniforms to help raise money for

breast cancer awareness and research.

Girls No Dinx/NCVA President's Day Tournament, San Jose, San Mateo

This girls volleyball tournament is so huge it is hosted at two convention

centers, the San Jose Convention Center and the San Mateo Event


Seventh Annual Willamette Volleyball Classic  

Oregon State University hosts the Fifth Annual Willamette Volleyball

Classic on May 6-8.

The event will be capped by an exhibition match between Oregon State

and Western Washington on Saturday, May 7, at 7:30 p.m. in legendary

Gill Coliseum. Admission is free to the event and fans can pick up the

2011 spring poster for autographs post-match.

The junior tournament, which will attract four different age groups

(12’s, 14’s, 16’s, and 18’s), will draw 207 teams and over 5,000

coaches, friends, and family members to Corvallis and the Oregon State

campus during Mother’s Day Weekend. Thirty courts await the

participants across campus, with courts at Gill Coliseum, Truax Indoor

Center, Indoor Tennis Pavilion, McAlexander Fieldhouse, Dixon

Recreation Center and Langton Hall. Off campus, five courts will host

the teams at the Boys and Girls Club and Linus Pauling Middle School.

The public is invited to join in the fun and festivities throughout the

weekend. There is no admission charge for entrance into competition

venues or to Fan Fest.

On Friday, May 6, the tournament begins with the Queen of the Court

competition at 5:00 p.m. A select number of teams will take part in the

competition, allowing teams to get extra matches in before pool play

begins. Also, pool play will begin for the 12’s age group.

On Saturday, May 7, teams in all age groups will advance through a

morning wave of three-team pools to a second round of pools in the

afternoon.  Pool play begins at 7:30 AM on Saturday.  Based on

Saturday’s results, teams will advance into brackets on Sunday. 

Bracket play will begin 8:00 a.m. on Sunday. Complete schedules will be

available in the Truax Indoor Center.  

The hub of the Willamette Volleyball Classic is Fan Fest, located at the

Truax Indoor Center. Throughout the weekend, Fan Fest provides

hospitality, entertainment, and an exciting atmosphere for tournament

participants and fans alike.

A central tournament scoreboard will keep participants up-to-date on

each team’s standing in the tournament. Fan Fest will also feature an

interactive area for tourney participants as well as for younger fans,

including activities ranging from teaching volleyball skills to measuring

volleyball proficiencies.

Fan Fest will have concessions and booths from tournament sponsors

such as ASICS, Wilson, Pepsi, University Hero, Jamba Juice and

Domino’s. Fest also includes a free inflatable interactive area for children

ages 3-7.

On Mother’s Day, (Sunday, May 8), the Willamette Volleyball Classic will

hold a specially catered Mother’s Day Brunch. Available to tournament

participants and the public, the brunch will be held from 10:00 a.m. –

2:00 p.m. in the beautiful second floor Founders Loge of Reser Stadium.

The menu features an assortment of buffet style foods and beverages.

No qualifying is required for this five-day tournament which is open to all

club and school volleyball teams.

Hosted at the Phoenix Convention Center, the 2011 theme is Pirate

Queens of the Desert.

Complete with an opening ceremonies, a daily newspaper a college

showcase a festival surviva guide and a raffle ticket giveaway for

fundraising purposes.

Participating teams are guaranteed 14 matches over five days.
