Landwehr Travels To China With BIP/USA Development Team
by Story by Meaghan Hayden
Two-time Iowa State all-American and 2012 graduate Alison Landwehr has been named to the BIP/USA Development Team that will play in the China - USA Challenge Invitational Tournament, June 17-25, in Shanghai and Beijing.
“It’s exciting to see more and more of our players continue their college career and play professionally,” head Cyclones coach Christy Johnson-Lynch said. “This is a great opportunity for Alison to experience another culture and help prepare her to play overseas this coming fall. Alison was always a great teammate and very mature and responsible, which are some of the qualities a player must have to be successful overseas. No doubt she will have a terrific pro career.”
Landwehr is one of 12 collegiate volleyball players from the 2012 season to make the team headed by New Mexico head coach Jeff Nelson. Kansas outside hitter Sara McClinton is the only other Big 12 volleyball player to make the squad, which is traveling to China with the Pac-12 Tournament All-Star Team.
The team arrives in Shanghai on June 17 and will have roughly 48 hours to settle in and adjust to the time change before playing Jingsu on June 19 at 7:30 p.m. local time (6:30 a.m. CDT). A scrimmage on the 20th and a final match on the 21st precede the team’s departure
for Beijing on June 22.
Once in Beijing, the BIP/USA Team will begin play against August 1st on June 23 and play one match each on both June 24 and 25 before returning to the United States on June 27.
