Its a tie for the favorites picked to win the Summit League volleyball
race this season.
In the preseason coaches poll, IUPUI and Fort Wayne both received
enough votes to finish in first place, followed by Summit League
newcomer Denver who finished in third place after receiving one first
Rounding out the teams picked to finish in the fourth through eighth
spots were South Dakota, South Dakota State, North Dakota State,
Western Illinois and Omaha.

At the Missouri Tiger Invitational on August 30 - 31 the Coyotes won
two against Idaho State and Arkansas State and lost two against
Missouri and Pittsburgh.
The weekend of September 6 - 7 found the Coyotes travelling to
the WSU Cougar Challenge where they beat Montana, Eastern
Washington and Texas Tech before losing to Washington State to finish
A trip to the Montana State Bobcat Classic where they emerged
undefeated against Akron, Gonzaga and Montana State before scoring
another victory against North Dakota on September 16.er 14 - 15.
The Coyotes make a trip to the Wichita State Tournament on
September 19 - 21 with top ten ranked Hawai'i, Wichita State and top
twenty ranked Creighton before playing IPFW in their first Summit
League volleyball match on September 27.
IPFW won their own IPFW Hyatt Place Invitational on August 30 - 31
remaining undefeated against Duquesne, Southern Illinois and
After falling to Ball State in five on September 4 the Mastodons
travelled to the Cleveland State Invitational on September 6 - 7
finishing with a 2-1 record, losing only to Irvine and winning over
Cleveland State and High Point.
The Mastodons beat Western Michigan on September 10 in three sets
before losing all three matches at the Butler invitational against #15
Michigan State, Butler and Illinois State on September 13 -14.
A midweek match is scheduled against Eastern Michigan on September
17 before one last non conference tournament, the Northern Illinois on
September 20 - 21 with Oakland, Northern Illinois and George
The Summit League volleyball schedule begins on September 27 for
IPFW with a match against South Dakota on September 20.
The Pioneers opened the season hosting their own Pioneer Classic in the
Hamilton Gymnasium on August 30 - 31 with a 2-1 record beating Air
Force, Texas A&M Corpus Christi and lost to UC Irvine in five sets.
On September 10, the Pioneers lost to Colorado State before welcoming
UCLA who they lost to in three, Creighton who they lost to in five and
Cal State Northridge who they lost to in four sets.
On September 20 - 21 is the Appalachian State tournament where the
Pioneers face UT Arlington, East Carolina and Appalachian State before
facing IUPUI in their first Summit League volleyball match on September
On August 30-31 the Mavericks attended the Houston Baptist
Tournament where they finished 1-2 after facing Houston Baptist, UT
Pan American and Louisiana. .
The Omaha Marriott Classic was next on September 6 - 7 at the Sapp
Fieldhouse where Mavericks finished last having lost against SIUE,
Southern Utah and Bradley.
The Tangi Tourism Lion Classic was next with three wins against
Louisiana Tech, Stetson and Southern and one loss against Southern
The Nike Invitational is next with Oklahoma, Miami, LIU Brooklyn and
Tulsa on September 19 - 21 before a midweek match against Drake on
September 28 is the last non conference match against
Western Illinois in the SAPP Fieldhouse before the Mavericks meet Fort
Wayne in the first Summit League volleyball match on October 4.
Entering the fourth week of preseason tournament schedule with a 4-7
record the Jaguars started at the IUPUI Hampton Inn Invitational on
August 30 - 31 with losses to Illinois, VCU and a victory over Florida Gulf
Another loss against Butler occurred on September 3 before the Jaguars
played in the Morehead State Tournament where they beat Montana
State and Saint Louis and lost to Morehead State on September 6 - 7.
The Buckeyes ranked #13 hosted their Ohio State Tournament with
Xavier and Southeast Missouri State on September 13 -14 where the
Jaguars finished with a 0-3 record.
The Northwestern Wildcat Classic is the last tournament on Septemer20
against Miami of Ohio and South Florida and one more non conference
game against Northwestern on September 22.
Denver is the first match on the Summit League volleyball schedule for
the Jaguars on Friday, September 27 at home.
At the Bradley Tournament on August 30 - 31 the Leathernecks finished
2-1 with victories over UT-Martin and UMES and a loss against Bradley.
Northern Illinois defeated the Leathernecks in a midweek match on
September 4 before Western Illinois participated in the Minnesota
Tournament where they lost all three matches to Duke, Minnesota and
Ball State on September 6 - 7.
The Leathernecks beat Chicago State in non conference match on
September 10 before they played in the Iowa Tournament where they
beat Illinois-Chicago and lost to ball State, Iowa and Drake on
September 13 - 14.
A rematch against Chicago State is scheduled for September 17 before
the Leathernecks head to the Northern Illinois Tournament on
September 20 to face Oakland and George Washington.
The Summit League volleyball schedule starts for western Illinois on
September 28 against Omaha.
During the North Dakota Classic on August 30-31 the Jackrabbits lost
three straight matches to Iowa State, Texas A&M and North Dakota.
At the Drake Invitational on September 6 - 7 the Rabbits lost to Eastern
Illinois and DePaul but beat Drake finishing with their first victory on the
last day of the tournament.
The Rabbits took their 1-4 record to the FIU Invitational on September
13 - 14 where they extended their record to 2-7 with two losses to
Jacksonville and FIU and one victory over Tennessee-Chattanooga.
The UTEP/New Mexico State Invitational is next on September 20 - 21
where the Jackrabbits face Hampton, UTEP and New Mexico State
before their first Summit League volleyball match on September 28
against North Dakota State.
The Bison lost their first three matches of the season in the La Quinta
Inn & Suites Invitational on August 30 - 31 against Wichita State, Utah
Valley and Arizona State.
Louisville, Wisconsin and Northern Iowa defeated the Bison at the NDSU
Doublewood Inn Classic on September 6 - 7 .
At the Georgia Southern Tournament on September 13 - 14 suffered
three more losses against High Point, Oral Roberts and Georgia
The Kansas Invitational is the last tournament on September 20 - 21
where the Bison face Kansas, Notre Dame and Georgia before their first
Summit league Volleyball match on September 28.
