What did inspiring college volleyball player Lane Carico do this week?

University of Miami senior Lane Carico was voted the Atlantic Coast

Conference Volleyball Player of the Week by the leagues head

coaches.

Lane Carico registered a season-high 19 kills against No. 18

Oklahoma.

This marks the second straight Player of the Week award for Carico,

who has led Miami to a perfect 9-0 record to start the season, and the

school’s first AVCA regular season ranking.

The Canes entered the poll this week at No. 20. The Hurricanes

hosted Florida A&M, Auburn, and No. 18 Oklahoma in the Hurricane

Invitational this past weekend, winning all three matches while only

dropping one set to Oklahoma.

Carico was named MVP of a tournament for a second time this

season.

She also picked up MVP honors at the Pepperdine Asics Classic on

Sept. 2-3 in Malibu, Calif.

The Manhattan Beach, Calif. native compiled 30 kills on a .258 hitting

percentage for 3.75 kills per set and had 32 digs in eight sets. She

also had five blocks and four service aces

The Manhattan Beach, Calif. native compiled 30 kills on a .258 hitting

percentage for 3.75 kills per set and had 32 digs in eight sets. She

also had five blocks and four service aces.

Carico came up huge in the win over No. 18 Oklahoma with 19 kills

and 16 digs to help pull off the come-from-behind upset. It was the

first victory over a ranked opponent for the Hurricanes since

December 7, 2002, when Miami beat No. 15 Wisconsin in the NCAA

Tournament.

Carico needs just 56 kills to pass Karla Johnson (2002-05) atop the

school’s all-time list. Additionally, she needs just 29 service aces to

become the school’s all-time leader, looking to pass Cassie Loessberg

(2006-09).
