Producing Powerful Peaceful Players, Issue #002 -- Lessons from the SOCALCUP Boys Showdown in LA
June 14, 2025
Hi

Lessons from the SOCAL Showdown

Do you know that feeling when you're on the brink of something

big? That's where we found ourselves yesterday during

Day One at the SOCALCUP Showcase Tournament in Los Angeles.

From Court to Confidence

Yesterday at the Los Angeles Convention Center wasn't just

another game day.

With the buzz of the city and the downtown vibe, we stepped onto

the court ready to compete and still pretty confident after our

last tournament trip to Long Beach a week ago for the 17s/18s

SCVA Championships where we finished 2-3.

We won our first match and split the second and third match

against teams seeded higher than us.

We fought hard today and ended with a 4-2 record.

We finished second in our pool and that keeps us still in the

race for the gold bracket!

Victory in the Pool: What It Means

It reminded me of something simple: Progress isn't always about

being number one.

Sometimes, it's about staying in the game, ready for the

next chance to test yourself and build confidence in your ever

improving skills acquired during hard work in practice and private

training.

What 4-2 Taught Me About Winning

Every volleyball player should know this: resilience is essential.

You might be chasing a varsity spot or more playing time, and

setbacks will happen.

The important thing is to get back up and move forward. To keep

doing the drill repetitions and to continue putting in the hard

work.

Strive For Your Gold Bracket Dreams

Need help sharpening those skills?

Is your current coach capable of seeing what technique you need

to work on and how you need to improve?

Do they give you feedback that breaks down each part of

each basic skill of volleyball in a way that you understand how

to correct yourself on the court?

Think about investing in yourself with 20 private training

sessions with me in June and July.

It's a commitment to your growth, just like we committed to the

fight today.

Keep pushing and don't stop believing in yourself. The court is

waiting for you.

Stay motivated,

Coach April
