Dig and Spike Volleyball Drills You Do To Improve  Your Ball Control

Your first paragraph ...

Digging Drills to do.....Line and cross court digging reps
.
.
Hitters in zone 4 and zone 2. Two diggers in zone 5 and zone 6. Two targets catching the balls while standing on the other side of the hitters ball court

.
First Zone 5 digger digs the line ball hit by hitter in Zone 4. (Brandon in turquoise shirt) They dig ball to target close to Coach Brandon basket.
.
.
At the same time hitter in zone 2 hits to digger in Zone 6 who digs the ball back to the target standing in zone 3/2.

Then digger in zone 5 does a quarter turn and faces hitter in Zone 2 who hits at them to dig the ball to their target standing in zone 3/2. .
.
.
At the same time digger in zone 6 does a quarter turn to their left and digs the ball cross court that was hit from the hitter in zone 4 (Coach Brandon)

Hitters don’t hit until they have the eye contact of the digger .

Diggers working on staying low even during their turn as they prep to dig the next ball

Diggers working on target practice

Diggers work on keeping hips below the level of the oncoming ball

Do for time or do after setting a goal for perfect digs to the target

Good job Neveah and Cass!

Libero workout. Three balls to the target. A hard hit. A tip. A deep ball to the corner to chase down.

Outside hitters digging dimes on Day 2 of the Improve Your Volleyball Middle School Clinic!

.
-One group shags balls positioning themselves around the court they keep balls from interrupting the drill. .

One group is target for diggers to dig to.

Establish a goal a number the digging group of 3 as to get that many balls to the target without making the target move...to finish the drill. Or.... go for time...

Hitting coach should remember to hit from different zones in the front court so the diggers work on platform angles, reading and believing what they see.

Defensive digging drill with 3 groups of 3 players.
-One group digs

-One group shags balls positioning themselves around the court they keep balls from interrupting the drill. .

Not Digging Balls That Are Hit Right At Your Feet?

Not Digging Balls That Are HiT Right At Your Feet? .

One Digging Problem You Might Have is that you are Putting your hands together too late!

When I use my phone to show players what they’re doing wrong more Times than not they can see what I’m telling them to correct and they fix it fast. .

Day 2 Middle School VB Clinic

I showed this group of middle school liberos Dafne, Delaney and Selena on Day II of our first clinic how long it was taking them to put their hands together before digging. (Swipe Left and Volume Up)

If you wait too long to put your hands together before you dig the ball.. it gives you less time to make minor tweaks and corrections to your platform angles.

Keeping your platform arms a ball’s distance away from your body and putting your hands together once you’ve landed in your adjusted defensive position is the key to touching more balls hit right at you and Controlling those balls so they’re more likely to reach their target .

When they saw what they were doing they corrected themselves. Then they started digging balls like this

Emma and Soraya getting Saturday training with awesome coaches!

Working on Libero training digging three types of attacked balls...

-digging the hard hit

-reading then chasing down the tip while trying to stay on your feet

-running down the deep shot to the far Zone 5 corner while trying to stay on your feet

-digging a settable ball (high in the court as near to Zone 3 - middle front- as possible) if not possible then to the middle of the court

-getting comfortable covering the entire zone 5 left back area of the court while taking only 3-4 steps to get to each ball

-reading fast and reacting fast while controlling our body parts so we can control the ball

702 liberos be digging’!

Stuff we like to do... just cuz it’s Tuesday and we need to get our reps in.

Don’t adjust your TV screen. They are that good❤️ Tehani, Anu and Brooklyn work on Arm swing timing. . . . Reaching high with quick arm rotation . . Contacting top third of the ball with flat palm and wide fingers that control where you want the ball to go and so ball travels from high to low (stays in the court) . . .Practicing hitting line ... so contact the ball in front of the hitting shoulder . . . Shoulder loose. Elbow bent but contact is made with elbow ABOVE the level of the ear . . . Hips and shoulders stay open to the wall on the right until after the toss .. . . . After contacting the ball arm finishes downward motion thumb to thigh . . . . . . Diggers dig. Defense back row.

Diggers dig. Defense back row.

Hitters vs. diggers no block.

Working on reading the Hitter.

Working on tracking the Ball that’s tossed to the Setter.

Then watching what set the Setter delivers to what Hitter ( this case Zone 4) then watching the Ball that’s set to the Hitter (is it a high ball?, is it a hut? Is it a ‘go’?) before watching (eyes go back to the Hitter) the Hitter to get clues as to where to be on my side of the court to dig the ball they hit.

In other words BALL- Setter- BALL - Hitter
.
.
.
Working on fearlessness. Getting comfortable facing a hard hit ball while dropping hips below the level of the oncoming ball. .
.
.
Getting comfortable letting the ball come down low (belly button level) before playing it...staying in your lower defensive position without rising up out of your squat ...to play the ball.
.
.
.
Digger works on being stopped...once the Hitter starts their armswing
